The Garret Press was formed in 2001 by Rosie and Howard Smith to publish and market books on Somerset. The books, written in a relaxed and conversational style, are brimful with beautiful watercolour paintings.

Rosie and Howard have walked, biked and sailed the coastline many times as well as exploring the county’s hills. The books are packed with personal reminiscence, stories and local tales. Many people helped along the way with their own anecdotes and yarns.

The books are printed and bound in Cornwall on high quality paper. With an interweaving text, Rosie’s illustrations sit on the page as if freshly painted. All the books, together with prints and drawings, are available through this web site.

They’ve been joined by ‘Steep Holm Diary’ - tales from Somerset’s rocky outcrop in the Severn Sea and more recently by ‘The Winter Gardens Tile Paintings, Weston-super-Mare’ telling the story of the creation of a series of ceramic tile paintings by Rosie.
