Steep Holm is an island in the Bristol Channel - about five miles offshore from the Somerset seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare. The ‘diary’ entries originally appeared in The Weston and Somerset Mercury under the title ‘Notes from an Even Smaller Island’ between 2001 and 2006. Their purpose was to relate the comings and goings of a gang of island enthusiasts involved in conserving Steep Holm’s unique wildlife, military history and archaeology. The diary is liberally sprinkled with Rosie Smith’s atmospheric colour drawings.

All the proceeds from the sale of this book will go towards supporting Steep Holm and The Kenneth Allsop Memorial Trust which owns the island. The Trust was formed to perpetuate the memory of a passionate, campaigning, environmental journalist who died in 1973. In 1976 the Trust was able to buy Steep Holm.
